Field-validation prototype stage

From unseen risk
to a visible signal.

Detex researches PCDA-based paper sensors that translate interactions with selected substances into visible color change for field screening. Beginning with drink-spiking prevention, we are developing a detection platform with potential applications in public safety, healthcare, and forensic science.

WHY DETEX

Invisible risks need
an immediate on-site check

Drink spiking means adding drugs or alcohol to someone’s drink without their knowledge or consent. Before confirmatory laboratory analysis, simple tools are needed for rapid field screening.

REPORTED DATA

What reported data tells us

These figures are police reports from England and Wales. They should not be converted into Korean prevalence or interpreted as the total number of incidents.

6,732 reports

Spiking reports received from May 2022 to April 2023

Most reports concerned drink spiking
561 per month

Average monthly spiking reports during the same period

A risk that can affect anyone
About 1 in 6

Cases associated with another crime in data through October 2022

Reported more often in drink-spiking cases and when victims were female

Official figures do not capture unreported cases, making it difficult to determine the full scale of the problem.

01

Sudden physical and cognitive changes

Nausea, dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, difficulty walking or speaking, and memory gaps can be warning signs.

02

Risk of injury and secondary harm

Spiking can cause severe anxiety and emotional harm and may increase the risk of injury, theft, or assault.

03

Seek help immediately if something feels wrong

If you feel unexpectedly intoxicated or unwell, tell someone you trust and venue staff. Seek emergency help if symptoms are severe.

DETEX TECHNOLOGY

Complex interactions,
made visible as a signal.

Detex is a colorimetric paper sensor whose detection strip changes color when it reacts with certain drugs in a beverage.

01

Colorimetric response

The interaction between certain drugs and the sensor is expressed as a color change on the detection strip.

02

Portable paper sensor

Detex is being developed in a portable format for use across a range of field settings.

03

Visual color-change check

We research color-change observation as a field-screening approach, not as a confirmatory determination.

04

Field-validation prototype stage

Detex remains at the field-validation prototype stage.

HOW IT WORKS

How it works

When certain drugs in a beverage interact with the sensor, the detection strip changes color. This website provides only a general public-facing explanation; chemical structures, synthesis methods, formulation ratios, and manufacturing conditions are not disclosed.

Detailed instructions will be released once product specifications are finalized.

DEVELOPMENT STATUS

From four demonstrated targets
toward six

Detection results have been demonstrated for four target substances: GHB, ketamine, MDMA, and methamphetamine. Development is underway to expand the platform to six targets, including alkyl nitrites and Rohypnol.

CUSTOM PARTNERSHIP

Detex partnerships tailored
to each organization and setting

Detex Lab prioritizes organizational and institutional contracts over direct-to-consumer sales. Customized supply—applying the form, design, and logo requested by each organization—is presented as a core business model.

SAFETY & LIMITATIONS

ESSENTIAL SAFETY NOTICE

No color change does not guarantee that a drink is safe. This product is not a substitute for legal, forensic, or medical confirmation.

Detailed instructions will be released once product specifications are finalized.

Color-change guidance

A color change is a screening signal indicating the possible presence of a target substance. It must not be used as a confirmed interpretation standard for individual drugs.
